The Gasometer supplied gas lighting to Brisbane in the 19th century. The ornate structure with its intricate metal framework served North Brisbane residents for more than a century until 1996 when it was decommissioned. Remarkable in its scale, the Gasometer now stands as the centrepiece of a vibrant new hub incorporating world class retail, residential, commercial, and serene public spaces.

Just as the original Gasworks was a hive of activity, so too is its contemporary counterpart. It is a classic example of integrated urban renewal at its finest. It has and will continue to engage the rapidly expanding local community with an array of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops of the calibre of Woolworths, and its own James Street-inspired fresh food market.
